Day 26 - March 11, 2007 Sunday

One of Terry's doctors came to see him today and talk about his injuries. The doctor told Terry about all of his injuries again. The doctor also stated the fact that when Terry first arrived at Methodist he was barely alive (in fact the doctors really did not think he would make it through that first day). The doctor said that Terry was fighting an infection right now and would probably be on antibiotics for another week (and continue with the isolation - gowns and gloves for visitors). Then the doctor gave him some good news - he would be moving to a regular room today. A nurse came in and got Terry in his back brace. Then she put him in his chair. Once he was in the chair his bottom started hurting. He want to get back in the bed. The nurse made him stay in the chair for about one and half hours - it was good for him to be out of the bed. They said it would be several hours before the regular room would be ready. Finally Terry began the move to his new room around 1:00 pm. They packed everything out of his PCU room (pictures of grandkids, scripture verses, and all his other miscellaneous stuff). His new room was 5091. They were working on getting him all settled in and Lynn was starting to put up pictures and scriptures. The new bed had a bar across it and was connected to the head and foot of the bed. As they were lowering the bed the bar caught on the light fixture. The florescent tube exploded. Tiny shards of glass were everywhere, including all over Terry. It scared everyone. A sliver of glass cut his nose a little. They told Terry not to move and started cleaning up the big pieces of glass. Someone from maintenance came in and started cleaning up the floor. They finally decided to use a vacuum to clean up all of the tiny pieces off of Terry. He enjoyed the massage provided by the canister vacuum. After they got it all cleaned up they put new sheets on and gave him a sponge bath. Then he was moved to a new bed (the bar on this bed had a curve in it to fit with the light fixture other bed's bar was straight) and a new room - 5095. This whole ordeal took about 2-3 hours total and was very exhausting for everyone. Lynn ended up staying with Terry that night. They tried to get a cot but weren't able to. She ended up sleeping in the chairs.
